Doom 3 BFG Edition Coming This Autumn

Bethesda has surprised us all today with the announcement that they will be releasing Doom 3 BFG Edition this Autumn on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Doom 3 was first released way back in 2004, some 8 years ago. for an 8 year old game, visually it holds ups pretty well, even when put side by side with modern shooters, the reason being that it was at the cutting edge back when it was released. id software are going to add another layer of spit and polish to the upcoming BFG edition, to iron out some of the wrinkles that 8 years of progress might show up.

As well as a visual sprucing up, id are promising “All New Levels”, seven new levels in fact, entitled “The Lost Mission”. The re-release will also feature the Doom 3 add on “Resurrection of Evil”, one of the first big name game add packs, before DLC was the norm. Resurrection of Evil kicked up quite a fuss when it was released, paying extra, for more content?! Never!!

DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” said John Carmack, Technical Director at id Software. “Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls.  New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”

DOOM 3 BFG Edition will also include the original DOOM games, DOOM and DOOM 2 for added nostalgia value. You can check the trailer below, a reminder of those terrifying Martian corridors.
