GodisaGeek's E3 2012 Predictions - MicrosoftWere we right with our E3 2012 predictions?

E3 has come and gone for another year. You may recall we came up with some predictions about what we saw – GodisaGeek.com staff were given the opportunity to predict a Likely, Maybe and Unlikely prediction for four categories: Microsoft, Third Parties, Sony & Nintendo. I’ll be scoring our staff on the Likely and Maybe results, while the Unlikely category is just a bit of fun.

Let’s take a look and see how right or wrong we were. First up is…

GodisaGeek's E3 2012 Predictions - Microsoft

Not many surprises came out of Microsoft’s conference in the end, but did we predict what was announced?

GodisaGeek's E3 2012 Predictions - Likely

Calvin: A new Xbox announcement (or a confirmation that they are working on a new Xbox system).

WRONG! Not even a slither of information about a next-gen console.

Adam: Kinect support galore, details on Halo 4 (single player), plus a look at some non-Kinect games as well.

RIGHT! Adam hits the nail on the head here. Halo 4 opened up the show, most games demoed were Kinect-enabled, and there were a couple of non-Kinect games as well.

Martin: A new version of the Kinect hardware, plus a closer look at Halo Infinity – Halo 4’s new multiplayer experience.

WRONG! No new hardware announcements and nothing about Halo’s multiplayer either.

Robin: GTA V downloadable content to be an Xbox 360 timed exclusive (ala GTA IV).

WRONG! Not only was there no details on DLC for GTA V, there was no sign of GTA V at all.

Joe: Details on the replacement for their Inside Xbox video content, plus the unveiling of some more special edition Xbox 360 consoles.

WRONG! I’m actually rather surprised that Microsoft didn’t reveal any new versions of hardware.

Colm: The announcement of many more new entertainment apps for the Xbox 360.

RIGHT! Lots of entertainment apps on the way, especially if you love American sports; as Microsoft announce a deal with ESPN to allow Xbox 360’s to access a few ESPN channels. That’s not all – another 30 TV services are planned.

Lee: A first look at the Forza Horizon title that was announced a few months ago, plus some more on Halo 4. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will also make an appearance on Microsoft’s conference.

RIGHT! Although Forza Horizon’s gameplay wasn’t shown on stage, it has been available elsewhere at E3. Halo 4 was a big part of Microsoft’s briefing, as was Black Ops 2.

GodisaGeek's E3 2012 Predictions - Maybe

Calvin: Details on a potential integration between the upcoming Windows 8, and Xbox Live.

RIGHT! Microsoft’s SmartGlass technology provides an interesting connection between multiple devices, no doubt Windows 8 PCs are one of those possibilities.

Adam: An announcement of the next Xbox console, with built-in Kinect (improved, a 2.0 if you will), a heavy digital distribution model, plus a new Gears of War game for the new system (potentially a prequel).

ALMOST! So Adam was wrong about new hardware, but he did get it right about the Gears of War prequel (even if it is for existing hardware).

Martin: An announcement of the next Xbox console.

WRONG! No sign of Xbox 720 anywhere.

Robin: First details of the next Xbox console to be revealed.

WRONG! Nor here.

Joe: New Kinect features, plus details of greater connectivity between Xbox 360, Windows Phone and PC.

RIGHT! As well as the previously mentioned SmartGlass technology, Kinect will also see some new features in terms of integration with Internet Explorer for Xbox 360.

Colm: An announcement of the next Xbox console.

WRONG! Nope, not here either.

Lee: Possibility of a new IP from Microsoft Game Studios.

RIGHT! Although nothing concrete was shown, trailers of new IPs from Twisted Pixel and Ascend: New Gods from Signal Studios were played.

GodisaGeek's E3 2012 Predictions - Unlikely

Calvin: An unveiling of the specs, price and release period of a new Xbox console.

WRONG! Nope, nada, nothing.

Adam: Next Xbox console to be “always online” and use a Blu-Ray drive.

WRONG! Ditto.

Martin: Announcement for a new, exclusive IP for Xbox 360.

RIGHT! Some new IP on the way; at the very least, Twisted Pixel’s Lococycle will be Xbox 360 exclusive.

Robin: Microsoft to make Xbox Live Gold accounts free for everyone!

WRONG! Oh well, we can dream…

Joe: An announcement of the Xbox 720/Durango/whatever they’ll call it.

WRONG! Nope.

Colm: A Microsoft handheld! Colm adds that if that happens he will literally eat some coleslaw (and he hates coleslaw).

WRONG! Colm is safe from the evils of forced coleslaw eating. For now.

Lee: Acknowledgement of a new Xbox console.

WRONG! Noooooo.

That’s it from Microsoft’s Press Briefing – I’ll be tallying the scores as we go, so how did we do?
