Nintendo-Focusing-on-Next-Gen-Handheld-Unlikely-to-Release-a-New-3DSWaiting for Nintendo to release an updated version of the 3DS before you drop the cash? You may want to reconsider as Shigeru Miyamoto says they’re focusing on the next-generation of handhelds.

Nintendo has a long and successful history when it comes to releasing different versions of the same handheld, GameBoy – GameBoy Pocket, Advance – SP, and of course DS – Lite, DSi, DSi XL. However when speaking to IGN, Miyamoto suggested Nintendo had no such plans for the 3DS.

I really feel like I’m satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it’s the best for this generation. What we’re thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld.

Of course just because Nintendo are focusing on the future doesn’t mean a new 3DS is totally out of the question. The final version of the DS, the DSi XL released barely a year before the 3DS hit shop shelves.
