Halo 4 Surprises No One as it Smashes Sales RecordsAnother big release sends more records tumbling, this time it’s Halo 4’s turn to rewrite the history books.

It’s a dubious comparison, but Microsoft likes to make it all the same. The big M are stating that Halo 4 has eclipsed the biggest movie launch in U.S box office history, with $220 million of sales in the first day, while it is on course to rake in $300 million in the first week.

Movies cost about a tenner to go and see, while a game costs £40 ($50-60), so in terms of pure cash, Halo is the big winner, in terms of people actually enjoying it, it’s still some way behind the big summer movie releases, the Harry Potters of this world, but Microsoft won’t mind that, since it’s the one making all the money.

The launch of Halo 4 took Halo’s lifetime earnings to an eye watering $3.38 billion. People just can’t get enough of that big green fighting machine, it seems. You can’t blame them, Halo 4 is a wonderful title, and is close to being the best halo yet in the eyes of many here at GodisaGeek.

“We’re thrilled that ‘Halo 4’ has emerged as the biggest U.S. entertainment launch of the year,” said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios. “Thanks to the millions of fans worldwide who helped make this another record-breaking launch for the ‘Halo’ franchise, ‘Halo 4’ is kicking off a strong holiday season and has become the must-have blockbuster experience of the year.”

Halo 4 is available now exclusively on Xbox 360
