Blizzard Have Diablo III “Running on Consoles”

Blizzard Have Diablo III "Running on Consoles"Although not yet an official project, Blizzard have never been candid about bringing Diablo 3 to consoles. Since before the PC release in May there has been talk of a possible port and, while it’s still at an experimental stage, a future console version is very possible.

Chief Creative Officer Robert Pardo told Polygon that, while Blizzard aren’t ready to discuss console plans, they are still “kind of exploring it.” He also went on to say that, “We’ve got builds up and running on it. We’re hoping to get it far enough along where we can make it an official project, but we’re not quite ready to release stuff about it, but it’s looking pretty cool.”

In a more recent interview, Jay Wilson backed Pardo by saying, “The whole team is essentially working on the next big Diablo thing. A lot of that stuff will show up next year at some point.”

Action-RPG Diablo III has sold over 10 million units, and an expansion is currently in the works. We can only hope that such success helps tip the scales in favour of a multi-platform console version. Diablo III on Wii U, anyone? Yes please.

We’ll keep you up to date as more information becomes available. In the meantime, here’s a rather slick Diablo III trailer to convince all you console gamers that this is a good thing – as if you need convincing.

Diablo III is available now on Windows PC and Mac.
