Japan's Cyber Police Use the Vita to Catch Real-life BaddiesYou probably haven’t heard of Gekiroku: Keisatsu Micchaku 24ji!! before, but it’s basically a kin to one of those many TV shows you’ve watched that follow a group of police officers cutting out crime. In this particular programme, the cyber police of Fukuoka Prefecture are followed by cameras and in a recent episode they used a PlayStation Vita.

Kotaku picked up the story on Japanese news site GetNews, where a criminal was using multiple IP addresses to illegally buy and sell goods, online. During one scene in Gekiroku: Keisatsu Micchaku 24ji!!, a man of the law took out the Sony handheld to identify wi-fi signals in the area. According to GetNews, this was because the device is much better suited to pick up signals than a smartphone or tablet.

The handheld hasn’t been selling gangbusters over there – or here for that matter – so, it’s nice to see the Vita getting a bit of use.
