Raiden Takes on Three Lethal Bosses in the New Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance TrailerA new trailer has appeared for Platinum Games and Konami’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, showing three of the game’s main boss fights.

First up is Mistral, a multi-armed female cyborg ready to rip protagonist Raiden into several tiny pieces with her rather sinister whip. More than a match for Raiden’s speed, her real strength is using the great range of her arms and whip to hold the ninja at bay. Next up is Monsoon, not as fast but just as deadly; able to detach his various bodily segments at will, making him an incredibly hard target for an opponent armed primarily with a single-bladed cutting weapon. Like Raiden’s sword, for example…

The final boss on show is Sundowner, a hulking, heavily-armoured brute with a pair of massive blades that connect to create a kind of horrific pair of scissors, and whose brute strength is more than enough to temper Raiden’s super speed. He meets frantic aggression with a solid wall of force, and is able to snatch up large pieces of architecture with which to smash your face in. Oh, and he’s backed up by a helicopter gunship, of course.

Although the trailer is in Japanese and so we can’t tell you what they’re saying or put any of it into actual context, it is very indicative of Platinum Games’ action-heavy approach to the franchise. They’ve hardly been shy about showing off the gameplay – perhaps hoping to allay fan fears about the new direction – but we have to be honest: it’s looking pretty decent right now.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America on February 19 and in Europe on February 22.
