Never before has an entry into the series been met with such critical and commercial success. When Ubisoft revealed their third quarter financial earnings, Far Cry 3 sold over 4.5 million copies and performed “much higher-than-expected”, said Ubi CEO Yves Guillemot.

To keep momentum going, it looks like Jason Brody’s efforts may bring about a sequel of some kind. In a recent interview with Joystiq, Far Cry 3’s lead writer Jeffrey Yohalem was asked whether he has something in mind for the game’s characters and setting. Yohalem said;

“Yes. I’m working on something now that will be surprising, I think, when it’s announced. But it definitely is a ‘strike while the iron’s hot’ thing, and we’ll see.”

Also, it appears that a game called Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has been rated for Xbox 360, PC and PS3 by the Brazilian Classification Board. Of course, no other details are known at this time, but more Far Cry 3 would be well received. The story engaged many and infuriated others, but there’s no denying that what Far Cry 3 did well was create a stunning open world, and one of video games’ great villians in Vaas Montenegro.
