District 9 Director Still Wants to Make Halo Movie

District-9-Director-Still-Wants-to-Make-Halo-MovieLike so many of the proposed video game movies, the Halo one has had a turbulent life. District 9 and Lord of the Rings directors Neill Blomkamp and Peter Jackson were both tied to the project at one point, but then the movie was postponed in ’06.

However, Blomkamp recently spoke with IGN at an event where he was promoting Elysium and he claimed that he would still be interested in taking Master Chief to the big screen:

“I still really love the world and the universe and the mythology of Halo. If I was given control, I would really like to do that film. But that’s the problem. When something pre-exists, there’s this idea of my own interpretation versus 150 other people involved with the film’s interpretation of the same intellectual property. Then the entire filmgoing audience has their interpretation. You can really live up to or fail in their eyes. That part isn’t appealing to me, but the original pieces are appealing.”

By the sounds of it, Blomkamp would not be too eager to stick with Halo’s canon. I can understand that working within an already established universe must be difficult, even moreso for Blomkamp as he’s obviously had nothing to do with any of the current Halo lore.

This would surely be a disaster though, no? History has proven that films based upon video games are pretty bad. But, do you think that a Halo movie would buck the trend? Let us know in the comments section, below.
