Ecco The Dolphin Team Offer Up Little Blue in Wake of Kickstarter Failure

by on April 30, 2013

Why didn’t you want to swim with the fishies? As a matter of fact, a lot of you didn’t want to swim with the fishies as the Kickstarter campaign for The Big Blue only raised $55,764 – a far cry from the $665,000 goal.

Pitched by the team who were the creative minds behind Sega classic Ecco The Dolphin, The Big Blue looked like an ambitious underwater adventure game, but obviously the interest wasn’t there. Undeterred, creator Ed Annunziata has come up with what he’s called, “Plan B”.

In order to gain some more buzz (and more cash, obviously), Annunziata has stated that the team will work on a new Kickstarter campaign which will have a much lower target. Like a demo, “The Little Blue” promises to give potential backers a better idea of what will become the final product. The scope won’t be as large and sea creatures won’t be as plentiful, but if it’s funded, Little Blue will be available to the general public for free and will also include a link to bring people to another Kickstarter page for the full version of The Big Blue.

One thing that alludes me is that if Little Blue will be made available to the public for free, what little extra/s do backers get? I’m sure all of these finer details will be cleared up in the meantime, though. Are they flogging a dead dolphin here? Let us know in the comments section if The Big Blue is something that appeals to you.
