Hideo-Kojima-Confirms-David-Hayter-Won't-Be-in-Metal-Gear-Solid-VYou will have to go elsewhere for your gravelly voiced protagonists, my friends. After the big reveal last week, David Hayter (voice of Solid Snake) tweeted that he wouldn’t be appearing in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Speaking with GameTrailers, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima confirmed Hayter’s tweets and explained the reasoning behind dropping the man with the unmistakable voice:

“What we’re trying to accomplish here is to recreate the Metal Gear Series. It’s a new type of Metal Gear game, and we want to have this reflected in the voice actor as well.”

Hearing someone else take on the role of Snake/Big Boss will be weird. There’s no doubt about that. Some fans of the series are quite perturbed with the decision and have set up an online petition, but those normally effect very little, to be fair. All people can hope for now is that the new man is just as memorable as Hayter.

Unless…this is one of Kojima’s elaborate ruses, of course…
