More New Screenshots And Trailer For Final Fantasy: Lightning Returns

We only got a new trailer for Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns a couple of weeks ago, but that hasn’t slowed down Square Enix – who unveiled another new video of the game this week at the San Diego Comic-Con. Entitled 13 Days, the video shows us some what we can expect from the dramatic new story in the game.

With its release not due until February 14 2014, you might think that Square wouldn’t be giving out too many details as of yet – but they have also released a selection of new screenshots and artwork images today. These show us a new city – Yusnaan – complete with a new battle arena area, ominously called The Slaughterhouse.

Finally, more details of the new battle system were revealed:

In some battles, you can destroy sections of a monster foe. If you succeed in disabling a specific area, the enemy will not only be weakened but you can also gain different items as rewards once the battle is won. There is also the introduction of a counter attack system! Counterblow is effective against an enemy’s physical attacks, but it is powerless against magic and some special attacks, so take care when using it. By timing your counter perfectly with the enemy’s attack, you can render it ineffective and land a punishing blow of your own that can easily stagger the foe! This ability uses up a large portion of the ATB gauge however, so it is important to only use it in the right situation.
