Gabe Newell AMA Results In New TI4 Information

by on March 5, 2014

After months of rumours and waiting for those coveted invitations to be sent out we finally have some solid details about The International 4. During an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit, Gabe Newell confirmed that TI4 is indeed going ahead.

When asked, “where will TI4 be held?” by a Redditor whose name is unprintable, Gabe replied with:

“We haven’t finalized where this year’s International will be. We are pretty sure it will be at Key Arena in Seattle, but we haven’t gotten everything finalized, and there is always a risk that our schedules and theirs won’t align in some way. As soon as we get everything finalized one way or another, we’ll get the dates out there for everyone who would like to attend. Should be fun this year.”

Despite not giving us any concrete details the statement does have a lot of key information. Mainly that The International 4 will be held at the Key Arena in Seattle. The Key Arena is a 17,000-seat stadium and although not a patch on the 35,000 seats ESL ONE will be filling, its still a significant increase in size compared to the previous location.

Also interesting is the fact they have not finalised any dates. Which has lead to speculation that The International 4 will not be held in August as in previous years, but during July. The folks over at Join Dota have done some digging and found that the arena has no bookings from July 16th – July 21st, which seems like a the most obvious slot for TI4 to fit into.

Elsewhere in the AMA Gabe was asked if popular backstage reporter Kaci Aitchison would return to TI4 to which he replied, “Yes”. This is obviously great news as Kaci’s unique perspective and professionalism won her a lot of fans at TI3.

The AMA, which was in support of Gabe’s charity work, has certainly left a lot of questions unanswered, but hopefully these will be answered when the first invites to the event are sent out. Most of the big teams are already preparing for TI4, with some trying out new rosters whilst others are consolidating efforts in order to get one of the invites.
