Activision Focus On Their Three Big Franchises

by on May 7, 2014

Activision have just announced their financial results for the first quarter of 2014, and things are looking decidedly rosy for the gaming mega-publisher. The company has exceeded its goals and acquired a GAAP revenue of $1.1 billion in over the last few months.

But more interestingly for gamers, they also announced a series of dates and figures related to their three biggest franchises; Call of Duty, Destiny and Skylanders. Firstly, Destiny will enter a Beta phase in July, before its full release on September 9th. Activision estimate that pre-orders for the title will break all previous records.

They also went on to state that Skylanders has now become the third-largest video game franchise, from figures taken in 2013. Swap Force was the number one selling title in North America and Europe (including all accessories and toys) for Quarter 1 2014 too. The newest game in the Skylanders series – Trap Team – will be released on October 5th.

Finally, Activision proudly revealed that Call of Duty: Ghosts is the biggest selling game on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One – and was the number one selling games series in North America in 2013. Advanced Warfare – the next release in the series will be released on November 4th.

So it is a big year of releases for the publisher, who is looking to build upon their already-lofty successes, with more blockbuster releases.
