Tony Hawk Is Returning – But This Time On iOS & Android

Tony Hawk and Activision have announced the return of their pro-skateboarding franchise to the realm of video games, but this time it will be on mobile devices only. Tony Hawk’s Shred Session is an iOS and Android based game, in development by Big Bit studio in the United Kingdom.

Tony Hawk expressed his excitement as follows:

“I‘m stoked that Activision shares my vision for an original skateboarding game on mobile,” said Tony Hawk. “It’s exciting to evolve with new technologies, and Shred Session is a whole new direction.”

The game promises to feature six current skaters, including the eponymous Mr Hawk himself, and you will be able to ride through such locations as the Santa Monica boardwalk and the streets of London. Two play modes will be playable as well: Survival, where players pull off continuous tricks and combos as long as they can; and Shred Sessions, where players play across levels to complete classic Tony Hawk game objectives.

The game appears to be an endless runner of sorts, and gameplay footage makes the title look like a cross between Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Temple Run. This may help to capture the new market of casual players, but it remains to be seen whether or not long-time fans of the series will be happy with the very simplistic nature of the new title.
