Team Secret, EG and C9 Dota 2 Teams Swap Players

by on January 2, 2015

The long rumoured ‘Great Western Shuffle’ of pro Dota 2 teams is finally taking shape, with some of 2014’s biggest and most successful teams changing their rosters in preparation for TI5.

The new information regarding the roster changes came from a leak via the Dota 2 Asia Championships webpage. The Dota 2 Asia Championships is a new tournament that looks set to be the biggest Dota 2 event outside of The International. Qualifiers for the event start next week, but Team Secret and EG have been directly invited. An update to the website overnight listed the rosters of all invited teams with the new Secret and EG rosters bring revealed.

Team Secret’s new roster sees Big Daddy N0tail and Misery leave the team (Misery was technically only a standin) with Artour ”Arteezy” Babaev and Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg taking their place. Arteezy and zai were both part of EG prior to the switch. The team’s coach 1437 has since confirmed this new lineup as has the teams official Twitter.

With RTZ and zai moving to Secret EG have two open spaces, which also according to the DAC website, will be Kurtis ”Aui_2000” Ling and Syed ”Sumail” Hassan. Sumail was a free agent before the switch, but Aui_2000 was a part of Cloud 9. This new roster is yet to be confirmed by the EG organisation, but it seems like the most likely possibility. The EG team is set to play in the D2L finals in Vegas at the start of next week, so an announcement seems immanent.

With Aui leaving for EG, C9 are now down a player and are yet to confirm a replacement. Half of Reddit seems to think that N0tail could transition to C9 while others are saying he will join up with ex-Secret teammate Fly to make a new team. Cloud 9 is expected to play in the DAC NA qualifiers on Monday, so an announcement should also be imminent.

This is certainly not the end of the shuffle, with former TI champions Alliance, Team Tinker and others expected to see roster changes in the coming weeks. This shuffle comes right after the news that Swedish team Lajons have been picked up by NiP.
