Sony cancels PlayStation Plus exclusive TV series Powers

by on August 4, 2016

Sony has cancelled Powers, the TV series made available exclusively to PlayStation Plus members, with showrunner Michael Bendis saying that the second series will be the “last, for now”.

Powers was an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name, revolving around a special police department known as the Powers Division which investigated crimes caused by those with super abilities. The show starred Sharlto Copley and Susan Heyward as the two lead detectives with two seasons being made available since its launch in 2015.

Bendis revealed the news of the cancellation on Twitter, but appeared optimistic about the show’s future:

It is not known why the show was cancelled, but it is expected to have something to do with lukewarm critic reviews. The first season garnered a 52% Rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while other streaming service exclusives such as Amazon Prime’s Mr. Robot and Netflix’s Stranger Things have received scores in the high 90s.
