Video games have come a long way since the likes of Pacman and Space Invaders. With the advancement of modern technology, many games now offer storylines and visuals that can rival the latest Hollywood blockbuster. Video games are also more than capable of representing real life, even on an exaggerated level. Grand Theft Auto: Online
The best selling series from Rockstar Games has managed to raise the bar and impress with each new release. GTA V, released in the summer of 2013 was the first to be released for the next generation of consoles, which allowed them to implement an online service which expanded the gameplay world. The game is now over three years old and the game makers have added to the online world regularly providing new stories and events for players to enjoy. There has even been the teasing of a casino in the online world. There are a number of YouTube videos that show players fining the casino, which is not currently available to enter. It is not yet known what the casino will offer players once it eventually opens. Players will be hoping they can win on the slot machine paylines, play a few hands of blackjack or spins of roulette. In the world of GTA, the possibilities are usually endless.
Hitman: Blood Money
The fourth in the best selling series that featured the assassin for hire known simply as Agent 47. Blood Money was available on PS2, PC, X-Box and X-Box 360. Each level of the game was episodic where the player had one or more individuals to target in a unique environment. Towards the end of the game is a level called ‘House of Cards’ which takes place entirely inside a casino. There are three targets to eliminate in this level, and like real life casinos, there are a ton of security guards, which can make it difficult to not get caught. Most of the assassinations take place in offices or elevators, which sadly means Agent 47 doesn’t get to try his luck on the casino floor, or else risk getting caught by the security cameras.
Quantum of Solace
It was 2005 when it was first announced that Daniel Craig would be taking over the role of James Bond 007 from Pierce Brosnan. His first outing was in Casino Royale, released in 2006, but we had to wait until 2008 to finally get a Daniel Craig James Bond video game. This is because Activision acquired the rights to the video game franchise in 2006 (after EA Games abandoned the license), but there was an embargo preventing them from making any games until 2007. In an effort to make up for lost time, Activision’s first release was a bumper game that included elements from both Daniel Craig films at the time. With a hefty chunk of the game dedicated to the Casino Royale movie, there was inevitably a number of levels set in the Casino Royale itself. One of the most challenging includes a poisoned Bond trying to escape the casino and reach his Aston Martin in time and prevent his inevitable death.
