Saber Interactive has announced today that its self-financed, self-published, arcade-style basketball game, NBA Playgrounds, has sold over 500,000 units across the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC since launching earlier in May.

Multiple free updates have already been released with more expected by the end of summer. Another 33 players will be added, including stars such as J. R. Smith, Chris Paul, Baron Davis, Tim Duncan, Jerry West and Elgin Baylor. Saber will also introduce a three-point contest mode with online play, a new rebounding system and fully functional friend invites to matches. These updates will arrive on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC with Nintendo Switch getting them at a later date.

Saber’s CEO, Matt Karch had this to say: “NBA Playgrounds has been a labour of love for us at Saber, so it’s hugely gratifying to see the game strike such a chord. Its success has paved the way for us to consider creating other arcade-style sports titles.” He continues: “We’ve worked tirelessly since release to refine the game and deliver the free content we promised, and we’re going to keep supporting it. I want to thank the community for their ongoing feedback, specifically players on Switch, who had to wait so long for the full experience they deserve.”
