Timesplitters HD Collection Needs 300,000 Signatures

Timesplitters HD Collection Needs 300,000 SignaturesMost gamers over a certain age will remember Timesplitters, a frantic, often hilarious shooter from Free Radical Design, the developer now known as Crytek UK.While a HD release would seem like a no-brainer to many fans, it’s simply not something any developer can take lightly. In a recent interview, Crytek president Cevat Yerli revealed that an online petition for a HD Collection of the classic FPS franchise is in existence – but it needs “300,000 voices”.

Yerli told Game Informer: “At a personal level, I’m a big fan of Timesplitters 2. For me, I would love to see the game out there, as a newborn HD version or what not. I definitely would love to see it.” The problem is that the petition isn’t bringing in the fans the way Yerli might have hoped. “Unfortunately the petition doesn’t look that convincing. If the petition picks up it will be an even better argument for us… The case of turning this into a business decision is still difficult, despite the fact that there was a Twitter request feed to test the waters. And now the petition, it just seems to be as we expected, as it was when it was Free Radical.”

So it’s good news, but not great. You could argue that 300,000 is an ambitious number to go for with a 12-year-old franchise, but the huge popularity of the Timesplitters titles means the idea shouldn’t be written off just yet, though Yerli explains that even such fervent support from a small number isn’t enough to get hopes soaring high: “There’s a very hardcore market that is very verbal about it. I would love to see this, and if the fan base approves a further petition. They’re trying to call 300,000 voices, I think it’s at two or three thousand right now.”

What do you think, gamers? Would you like to see a Timesplitters HD Collection released in the near future? Do you think the franchise still has the chops to stand up beside the shooters of today? Do you even remember Free Radical Design’s classic? If the idea of a re-release appeals, why not head over to the petition site and add your voice?
