Playstation 4 Games are Disc-Based, No Online Connection Required

During their E3 press conference Sony confirmed their plans regarding DRM and online systems. In short, nothing has changed.

Playstation 4 titles remain disc-based meaning that you can freely trade them in, lend them to friends, and always access the content stored on said discs.

In relation to this the console has no requirement to connect to the Internet. Even if you never attach your Playstation 4 to the net, you’ll always be able to play your games.

What’s more, your Playstation Plus subscription will carry over to Playstation 4 at no extra cost, meaning that the Plus subscription will now cover three systems; Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita.

Sony also revealed that Plus subscribers would receive ‘Drive Club PS Plus Edition’ on day one, with at least one game being added to their library every following month starting with three indie titles; Don’t Starve, Secret Ponchos and Outlast.

During the course of the announcement it did somewhat feel as if Sony was bending Microsoft over and slapping its bottom with every sentence (with every slap echoes by the audience’s cheers), and while it’s a lot of celebration over nothing truly new, it’s still evidence of Sony giving players exactly what they want.
