Jabra REVO Review

by on November 7, 2013

The sound quality on these is nothing short of amazing. How Jabra have managed to create such a great sounding pair of headphones without any source of power is quite astounding.

Jabra have partnered with Dolby Digital to produce the Jabra Sound App for Android and iOS, which somehow manages to create a richer, fuller sound – most probably by fiddling with bass/treble settings. The app is only available with an unlock-code, provided with the purchase of Jabra headphones. In their words: “This full-spectrum brings new life, extra depth and dimension to music across genres”, and they’re not far wrong.

The hardware itself has Dolby Digital Plus technology built-in, which is a massive improvement over original Dolby Digital tech. Without getting too geeky, Dolby Digital Plus supports an additional 10 full-bandwidth audio channels (15 in total) at  a crazy max bitrate of 6.144 Mbit/s (up from Dolby Digital’s 640 kbit/s). This is what really enables Jabra to pump the full range of data to the headphones, and puts REVO a step above other non DD+ headphones.

The in-line controls should work with most Android and iOS devices. The cups are comfortable, with a soft leather-feel exterior, and not too large. The band is extremely durable, it’s quite bendable and of course it folds up for extra portability. Even the cable is durable by design, with a tangle-free cord to save you from those un-tangling headaches. These headphones are certainly made for heavy use.

Another really interesting feature of the REVO is the fact that both ear cups have an audio jack, so not only can you chose which side to plug your iDevice into, but you can daisy chain audio to a friend’s headphones to share your music. How pleasant is that?

Let’s not forget how great they look though, available in either white and grey or black and white, both with a hint of orange on the cups and cable to match. They’re not over-the-top or garish like your Beats, Streets or Souls. They’re casual yet slightly conservative.

You can see the REVOs in use during our Foul Playthrough videos:

Available for £149.99 / $179.98 from Amazon UK | US. The wireless versions are only about £30 / $20 more expensive.
