Open World Mad Max Game Revealed At E3

by on June 11, 2013

The film franchise may be over thirty years old now, and Mel Gibson isn’t the most popular actor around the world anymore, but that hasn’t stopped Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment and Avalanche Studios from announcing a new third-person, open world game based around the world of Mad Max.

The game will be released across all the major platforms; PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2014. The game is being developed by the team behind the wildly fun Just Cause titles – and will be based around vehicular combat in a savage world. Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production & Development, at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment had this to say:

“ Mad Max places gamers directly into the driver’s seat of their ultimate customized vehicle to battle it out in the action-packed, open world of The Wasteland… We are very pleased to work with Avalanche Studios to provide a next generation gaming experience with robust fighting paired with dynamic vehicular combat.”

And Christofer Sundberg, Avalanche Studios Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer, went on to add that:

“Over a decade of creating open world experiences has led us to this point… The Wasteland lends itself incredibly well to the high level of player freedom with which Avalanche Studios has become synonymous. This unforgiving environment inspired us to create a gritty and diverse experience where driving, fighting and scavenging are essential for survival.”

This seems a somewhat odd choice for a new gaming series, but then again, the setting and themes of the movies lend themselves perfectly to the realm of video games. Think Borderlands/RAGE – that sort of thing, with perhaps a bit of Grand Theft Auto and Just Cause thrown in for good measure.
