Jonathan Ross is Microsoft Games Studio’s New Executive Producer

In a piece of news that’s so odd that you’d think it was a parody, Microsoft Game Studios have today announced that television and radio personality Jonathan Ross has been hired as an Executive Producer.

You may or may not be aware that Wossy is a genuine gamer, and is even is even the head of Hotsauce Interactive, developers of iOS game Catcha Catch Aliens!

Joining him as Executive Producer is his colleague Georg Backer. Both will be consulting with Microsoft Games Studio partners such as Lionhead, Rare, Lift London and Soho Productions as well as assisting with Microsoft’s efforts at creating cross-media entertainment.

Here’s a quote from the man himself:

“I’m thrilled to be joining forces with Microsoft Studios. The explosion in cross-media opportunities and the chance to create and develop entertainment ideas that make the most of both the traditional and the very latest platforms is tremendously exciting. My love of games, movies and TV made this partnership a no-brainer. And they said they’d give me an Xbox One for free, so how could I possibly refuse?”

You can’t knock the guy for trying to score an Xbox One, can you?

It’s easy to pass this one off as a PR stunt, but this is a genuinely good move on Microsoft’s part. Calvin interviewed Jonathan earlier this year, and he clearly knows his games. It’ll be interesting to see where this partnership goes in the coming years.
