ESL Hosting $250,000 CS:GO Tournament in Cologne

by on February 19, 2015

ESL are hosting another massive Counter Strike: GO tournament with $250,000 in prize money.

The event will take place in the LANXESS arena that is located in Cologne, Germany. It will run from August 22-23, just weeks after Gamescom is hosted in the same city. The stadium is usually home to the Kölner Haie ice hokey team, but will host around 15,000 CS:GO fans during the tournament weekend.

Sixteen teams will compete at the event, although who they are or how they can qualify is yet to be announced. Interestingly the prize pool appears to be funded by the ESL and not partly funded by Valve or the community as is the case with CS:GO majors.

Tickets will go on sale on February 23 (next Monday) through a number of German ticket retailers. More info is available on the ESL website.

Ulrich Schulze, Managing Director of Pro Gaming at ESL once again is back to talk about the event.

“We had the honour of hosting two US$250,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments last year as part of the ESL One esports tour, and this year we plan on stepping it up,”

“ESL One Cologne is going to be the largest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event in the world. Taking place in the biggest indoor arena in Germany, we’re sure it’ll be a massive hit for fans from all over.”

You can expect a lot more info about this event, along with the ESL One Katowice and ESL One Frankfurt events to be unveiled in the coming weeks so be sure to check back soon.
