Batman Arkham Origins Multiplayer Confirmed

by on July 31, 2013

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today confirmed that upcoming prequel Batman: Arkham Origins, will have an online multiplayer component.

According to a press release the mode “blends the traditional Arkham gameplay with third-person shooter mechanics”.

It will be developed separately from the single player game by Brink developer Splash Damage.

Uniquely the online play will feature 2 vs 3 vs 3 player matches. The two are Batman and Robin while each three sees supervillains Bane and Joker at their head, with two kitted out henchman in tow.

It’s a pretty good prospect and one would assume will offer up a variety of different styles of gameplay.

Arkham Asylum and Arkham City had no online play so such a mode will likely cause ire among some gamers protective of their single player experiences.

To some it might seem tacked-on in a similar way to Tomb Raider’s multiplayer earlier this year, but this seems to be the way of successful single player IPs looking to add value to their sequels wherever possible.

For now let’s wait and see what it actually is.

Batman: Arkham Origins will be released worldwide on October 25.
