Sony has sent out invites for an event on September 7 known as “PlayStation Meeting” where it is expected to announce the successor to the PlayStation 4.

For months, rumours have been circulating of a newer and more powerful version of the PlayStation 4, codenamed Neo. Various reports published within the last 48 hours pointed to Sony scheduling an event for September 7 to announce the new hardware, which the publisher have now confirmed by sending out invites.

The PlayStation 4 Neo (or PlayStation 4.5 to some) is expected to contain an upgraded internal memory capacity as well as higher GPU and improved processing power. It has been reported that the console will have enough power to run Sony’s upcoming virtual reality headset PlayStation VR without an external processing bank as well as being able to run games and video in 4K resolution.

The event starts at 3PM PT (8PM BST). We’ll have you covered.
