Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will see the series’ first ever DLC

by on February 14, 2017

It was only a matter of time until Nintendo joined in with modern games practices, and Breath of the Wild sees them joining the Expansion Pass club.

When Breath of the Wild releases on March 3rd the expansion pass will be made available to both Wii U and Switch players. The pass will enable the future use of two pieces of downloadable content when they become available later in the year. The first will see a Cave of Trials challenge mode added alongside a hard mode, the second piece will give players a new dungeon to explore and a new story to play through.

As well as the future DLC, the purchase of the expansion pack will see three chests appear in the game’s Great Plateau area within which Link will find items to aid him on his quest…but also…a t-shirt with a Switch Logo on it, that’ll be good for those playing on the Wii U to see won’t it?

It’ll be interesting to see how Nintendo handle their approach to expansion passes going forward, currently they’re saying that content packs cannot be purchased individually. It’s unclear what this means exactly, will we HAVE to purchase the expansion pack to get the DLC? Or do they mean the individual items in each pack cannot be gained individually? Time will tell.

You can check out the video above to see Aonuma making the announcement.

The expansion pass will release alongside the game on March 3rd, priced at £17.99
