Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Announced

Sonic fans rejoice! SEGA have today announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is on the way this summer. The game is officially titled Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 (check out the teaser trailer below) and it will be available to download on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Unlike the most recently released (and quite terrible) Sonic games this new adventure will see the blue hedgehog make a return to the 2D plane in glorious high-definition. The game will run at 1080p on the PS3 and Xbox 360 whereas the Wii version will run at 480p. For all you “waggle” fans, the game will also include motion control functions for the Wii and PS3 versions. Finally, to encourage some healthy competition all versions of the game will include online leaderboards. For a downloadable title SEGA certainly haven’t skimped on the features eh?!

SEGA’s Ken Balough added that the game is set after the Mega Drive/Genesis title Sonic & Knuckles and our beloved blue hedgehog will be equipped with all the abilities we have seen in previous games plus more. He was also kind enough to explain the “Episode 1” part of the title, “When SEGA released Sonic 3, ultimately it was the part one of a story that saw its conclusion in Sonic & Knuckles. In that same spirit, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a bigger story, and this is that first chapter”.
