E3 2012: New Super Mario Bros. U
What would a Nintendo launch be without a Mario title, well in the case of the N64 it would be just Pilot Wings. Luckily Wii U has a slightly more robust lineup but that doesn’t mean Mario won’t be making an appearance.
New Super Mario Bros. U will look to build on the monumental success of the Wii version that released back in 2009. As you’d expect the game makes full use of the Wii U’s GamePad controller, allowing for a whole range of new gameplay opportunities.
During the brief video shown at the conference we saw how the GamePad’s screen could be used to place objects in the game, helping the other players negotiate the level that little bit faster. Mario games are always packed with innovative gameplay mechanics so the sky really is the limit with the Wii U.
If there was to be one small complaint it would have to be the visuals, they don’t seem to make full use of the Wii U’s power. What did you make of the game, will this be the Wii U’s killer app?
The launch trailer is below for you to enjoy.
No release date has been given but the game will be available during the infamous “launch window”.
