10,000-Developers-Sign-Up-to-Produce-Content-for-OuyaEven with some negative reviews, the Ouya rages on. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, head of developer relations Kellee Santiago has said that 10,000 developers have signed on to produce titles for the console.

Some Kickstarter backers have already received their systems, but with such a big roll-out, it will take some time for everyone to reap the rewards of their pledge. The co-founder of Journey developer thatgamecompany spoke about studios being more interested in producing content over a wide range of platforms:

“[thatgamecompany] had announced that they’re platform agnostic and I think a lot of developers in general are going that way to leave projects open to any possibility… Also, I think climaxing at GDC this year there’s this sense that it’s not so much the triple-A versus indie anymore, and people are playing games of quality wherever they come from and maybe indie is more and more a way of just doing business,”

Santiago also claimed that the unfavourable early impressions of the system spurred Ouya on because these are all issues they are currently addressing:

“It’s great to hear it because we are still in this preview period and we continue to iterate and improve upon the console in a way that no other company can. For our gamers and developers that creates a very supportive ecosystem for them.”

The success of the Android home console is still yet to be determined, but even with its early detractors, there is promise for the console. We’ll just wait and see how things turn out.
