BioShock Infinite Announced

by on August 13, 2010

Another BioShock is on the way folks, but this one is not set in Rapture. Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative and gameplay experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky. Infinite is being developed by Irrational Games, the studio behind the critically acclaimed orginal BioShock.

In BioShock Infinite players will take the role of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt who has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. Don’t worry though folks, this doesn’t mean the game will include a tacked on co-op mode! As DeWitt players must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.

Well, it certainly is different compared to BioShock and BioShock 2! I’m sure most of you will agree that a change of location was needed and, if they get it right, this city in the sky aspect could be superb. BioShock Infinite is currently set for a 2012 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. That is going to be one long wait!
