London’s OXO Tower Gets PlayStation Facelift

by on November 14, 2013

Honestly, I didn’t know there was an OXO Tower in London, but it’s apparently fairly famous and now has added a few symbols for the impending launch of PlayStation 4.

72 neon light strips that make up the iconic Triangle, Circle, X and Square of PlayStation, now sit on the structure and the lights were turned on at 4pm today.

As well as the light show, UK residents can now get their first opportunity to play the console prior to launch at London’s Covent Garden in the newly opened PS4 Lounge, which will stay open until December 1.

Chief abseiler for the OXO Tower facelift, Pete Hancock, detailed the process of added a Triangle and a Square to the Tower:

“This is the first time in the OXO tower’s 85-year history that any amendments have been made to the lettering featured on the tower and it has been an extremely challenging project. We have had to do multiple lifts with 1.1 tonnes of aluminium to get the symbols in place – it was pretty hairy at times!”

Again, am I the only one who didn’t realise London had a Tower dedicated to gravy?
