PlayStation boss says the PS4 is in the final stage of its life cycle

by on May 22, 2018

The Sony Interactive Entertainment Chief, John Kodera, had some interesting things to say about PS4 and PS as a whole today at Sony’s IR day which is their investor relations day.

He says the PS4 is entering its final phase of its life cycle which will reduce the number of units sold. He also says that the services and membership side of things will offset this reduction in revenue. PS VR is growing but as a whole the industry for VR isn’t growing as per market expectations. Sony will not just focus on new IP but also franchising existing IP and refresh others.

The highlight in addition to the comment about the PS4 life cycle is that the period until March 2021 is when PlayStation will “crouch down once” to grow even further. This could imply a lot of things, the biggest being PS5 in 2021.

Sony’s E3 showcase this year will be interesting.
