Double Fine Happy Action Theater Available Now

Tim Schaefer’s brilliant San Francisco studio, Double Fine, has confirmed the release of their newest title, Double Fine Happy Action Theatre.

Resembling a cross between insane 80s Channel 4 show Minipops and a overly vivid acid trip, Double Fine Happy Action Theatre is a downloadable Kinect title that’s available right now on the Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Never afraid to be different and creative, Double Fine’s latest doesn’t worry about anything so square or grandaddy as menus or prescribed gestures, rather it encourages players to simply go mental in front of Kinect, then watch the environments of the Happy Action Theatre respond in “interesting and exciting ways”, according to the press release.

Schaefer has been tweeting about the game all day (@TimOfLegend) and is clearly excited for its release. He is said to have designed the game with his three year old daughter in mind, the end result being eighteen Action Theatre experiences that are like toys which players of any age or gaming experience can interact with. Double Fine Happy Action Theatre allows six players to share a game (assuming you have enough friends and the front room for it), with various scenarios available to the player, from corralling hot lava flowing through your lounge, building an ice cave out of your furniture or crushing all your nick-nacks as a giant monster.

Double Fine have an established pedigree in creating imaginative titles Kinect titles, so those looking to share their Kinect might find Happy Action Theater to be everything they are looking for.

Double Fine Happy Action Theatre is available now on the Xbox LIVE Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points.
