33 Batmans and 130 Green Lanterns in Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure

While Scribblenauts Unlimited remains in limbo regarding a European release, 5th Cell are already preping Maxwell’s next adventure – a crossover with DC comics.

Titled Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure, this game is positioning itself as a  stupidly humongous smorgasbord of DC fan-service presented in Scribblenauts trademark visual style.

As reported by Polygon, who had a little chat with senior producer Caleb Arseneaux, the game contains over 2,000 different DC themed characters and the emphasis is clearly on DC…

Arseneaux gave this example, “So when you play Scribblenauts for the first time and you spawn a cat, that’s usually when people are like, ‘Oh my god, this game has a cat! That’s awesome!’ Then you type in dog, and the dog appears and starts chasing the cat,” he said. “In Unmasked, we have a Red Lantern that is a cat — Dex-Starr — so if you spawn a dog, and then you spawn a cat, Dex-Starr will appear, and when the dog tries to chase him, he’ll beat up the dog.”

Does this mean that only DC themed characters and items will appear? An interesting decision if true, but not necessarily a bad one, especially after a certain pair of Internet born kittens threw 5th into hot water. Though I can see ‘Giant Gentlemanly Superman’ becoming the new go to phrase.

The game will also contain a superhero creator which, after Unlimited’s amazing create an item mode, is most welcome.

Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure will be released this Autumn for Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Windows PC
