Exclusive SmartGlass Missions in Dead Rising 3

Those that weren’t happy with the tablet focus at this year’s E3 mightn’t be happy to learn that some missions in Dead Rising 3 will require players to have SmartGlass.

In an interview with Siliconera, Dead Rising 3 executive producer Josh Bridge outlined how the Xbox One exclusive utilises the smartdevice application. With SmartGlass running, your tablet/phone will actually appear to be a phone from Dead Rising 3’s world and even act like one:

“You’ll get calls from a character that are only on the SmartGlass device. So if you don’t have SmartGlass, you won’t get those calls from that guy. Which also means you won’t get those missions.”

This is all extra. Players will interact with an extra character and get some extra missions via SmartGlass, but that story arc sounds like an addition to the main campaign.

New technology scares people and that’s understandable. With the current generation of consoles being the longest in history, any new updates on how we play our games is daunting. This, however, sounds pretty cool. It doesn’t appear to be intrusive and seems like anyone that doesn’t have access to SmartGlass won’t miss out, too much.

Dead Rising 3 is one of the games that you’ll get to play on Xbox One launch day, some time in November.
