Only Four Teams Remain in the Dota Asia Championships

by on February 7, 2015

The main event of the Dota Asia Championships has been in full swing over the last few days and now we are down to the final four teams. Obviously event spoilers follow.

Today’s best series was easily the final one between tournament favorites Team Secret and Cloud 9. After being dumped into the lower bracket yesterday Secret were looking to bounce back in style, however that didn’t happen as they lost the first game of the BO3. The 2nd game was really entertaining (VOD here) will Cloud 9 looking like they would take the victory only to be denied by some BoT’s. The final deciding game was a bit more routine for Secret as they eventually won to advance to the losers bracket semi finals tomorrow.

One of the other interesting series was between Big God and surprise of the tournament Rave. Big God ended up taking the series 2-1 however controversy has sprung up (on a since deleted Reddit thread) about BG players not wearing the noise cancelling headphones, and thus using the arena sounds to their advantage. Multiple images have proved there were times players were incorrectly wearing the headphones, but no official statement has been made as far as I can tell! The win gave Big God a place in the final four.

The other two remaining teams are ViCi and EG who will meet tomorrow in the winners bracket final. The winner of that series advances to the grand final while the loser will have to play the winner of Secret vs Big God to decide the 2nd finalist.

With multiple positions being decided over the last day or two below is a run down of each teams placing and their prize money from Liqipedia. Obviously the top four are yet to be decided but will be made up of Evil Geniuses, ViCi Gaming, Team Secret and Big God.

The prize pool for the DAC has now surpassed that of The International 3 to become the 2nd biggest eSports prize pool in history, second only to the $10million of TI4. The current prize pool stands at $2,994,230, of which the winners will take home $1,257,577.
