PlayStation TV to be discontinued worldwide

by on February 29, 2016

If you’ve had your eye on a PlayStation TV but haven’t plucked up the cash or courage to buy one yet, you might want to take the plunge soon — Sony are discontinuing them worldwide.

Originally the Vita TV (as its known in Japan) was being discontinued in Sony’s home country but now they’re being canned regardless of region. AV Watch reports that Sony has halted all manufacturing of the device and the company will stop promoting the PlayStation TV brand outside of Japan but speculates that they will remain on sale for some time as SCE clears their remaining stock.

Sony introduced the device back in 2014 as a non-handheld variant of the PlayStation Vita. At the time of writing, the device is still available to purchase via the English language PlayStation TV website and other retailers such as Amazon, but has now stopped shipping in Japan. Peace out PlayStation TV — we hardly knew you.
