New Xbox 360 Controller On The Way

by on August 31, 2010

Following much speculation and rumour, Microsoft have today confirmed that a new Xbox 360 controller is to be released sometime early next year.  Speaking to CVG, Microsoft stated “The Xbox 360 Wireless Controller with Play & Charge Kit – with Transforming D-pad will be available beginning early 2011 in the UK”. Hmm, transforming d-pad?! Maybe the controller will make an appearance in the new Transformers movie!

UPDATE – The new Xbox 360 controller (including play and charge kit) will be released on November 9th in North America for $64.99. European gamers will be able to get hands on with it sometime in February 2011. A video of the new controller has also been released, hit the jump to check it out.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft have released a Xbox 360 controller with an “improved” d-pad. Anyone remember the lime green control controller that was released alongside PES 2008?! The d-pad on that was supposed to be much improved, but in reality it was pretty much the same as the standard controller. Credit to Microsoft for still trying to improve the awful d-pad on the Xbox 360 controller, but does anyone even use it these days?! Most games nowadays take full advantage of the analog sticks and fighting games fans either use sticks or specialist controllers. It’s a little too late in our humble opinion.
