RAGE To Receive Comic Book Adaptation In June

by on March 12, 2011

Rage LogoThe much anticipated driving/FPS mashup RAGE will receive a three-part comic-book adaptation starting in June. The series, published by Dark Horse Comics, will by written by Arvid Nelsion (creator of Rex Mundi) and penciled by Andrea Mutti (DMX).

Given that RAGE’s setting and art direction have featured strongly in pre-release hype, the comic-book medium seem an appropriate medium to expand and explore the universe.

Those who have been following RAGE’s development will already know that the game is set in the not-too-distant future and begins with the protagonist emerging to discover humanity working to rebuild itself against forces such as bandit gangs and mutants. The comics will be set prior to the events in the game and will provide numerous insights into the game’s complex storyline:

This comic series […] presents a new twist on the post-apocalyptic near future as one woman discovers that the survival of humankind doesn’t necessarily mean the survival of humanity. The Earth has been devastated by a collision with an asteroid, with a tiny fraction of the population surviving in life-sustaining Arks buried deep below its surface. Those who survive emerge to find a wasteland controlled by a global military dictatorship called the Authority. But a rescued scientist learns that the Authority has lied to her and the other survivors about how this new world came to be.

RAGE is set for European release on September 16th 2011, and the first of the three comics will be available in North America and the UK on June 22, 2011. The cover of the first issue can be seen below.
