Skyrim Takes over the World, Sales wise

by on December 16, 2011

Skyrim Takes over the World!!!The fantasy RPG that has created many internet memes should be heralded as great. Although it didn’t feature in GodisaGeek’s overall Game of the Year list, it has still been rolling in the dough for those behind it.

It has cleaned up industry wide when it comes to awards and sales. It was released on 11th of November and has already shipped 10 million units for PS3, 360 & PC – making approximately $650million worth of retail sales. In North America alone,  the PC version out sold all other PC games by a factor of three to one in the month of its release. Skyrim has earned over a dozen Game of the Year  awards from various publications already, including the “oscar” of video games, the VGAs Game of the Year. Throughout the whole of 2011, Skyrim – even though only being released on 11th November – has been the most played game of 2011, as recorded by Raptr.

“We are most grateful to our fans for their support and enthusiasm for the game, and their love of the hundreds of hours of gameplay it offers. We continue to strive to deliver the highest quality entertainment experience for everyone. 2012 will be another huge year for our fans, with the release of the Creation Kit, as well as exciting DLC which will add to the richness of this epic adventure.” said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media.

The list of accolades for the fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series is astronomical and it has proven to be one of Bethesda’s great successes. Its acheived over 200 perfect scores from various websites and magazines across the board. Our own Mary Goodden loved it and I wholeheartedly agree with the high praise for Skyrim. It was a massive undertaking by Bethesda and they acheived greatness with what they created.

But, yes it had it’s flaws. Most of them were highly amusing though and as I said earlier it created a crazy amount of memes that can be seen on many forums across the world wide web. That’s why I bring you – *drum roll* – some Skyrim inspired YouTube videos!

You shouldn’t mess with giants. No matter who you are.

Some people are really clever.

…And this is just really nice. Girl’s got skillz. With a “z”.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is out now for PC, Xbox 360 & Playstation 3
