Epic Mickey: Power of IllusionDisney UK have today revealed that Mickey Mouse will be making a splash (with paint that is) on the 3DS in Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion.

The title, which is part of the Epic Mickey franchise, pays homage to the Sega Genesis title “Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse”, and sees the titular castle of the Genesis game fall into the Wasteland, “an alternate world filled with 80 years of forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions”. Players will control Mickey as he attempts to stop Mizrabel, the evil witch from the original Castle of Illusion game, from escaping the Wasteland by draining the cartoon essence of toons who are currently famous. Where’s Roger Rabbit when you need him?

Featuring dual screen intergration and the 3D capabilities of the 3DS, Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion will give players the opportunity to create objects and characters that they can directly place in the Wasteland . Rough versions of objects will be transformed into 2D Disney-style illustrations, and if these objects are moved to the top screen they will be further transformed into full 3D.

The original ‘Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse’ changed the face of video gaming by allowing players to play as Mickey Mouse in a side-scrolling adventure full of dynamic environments,” said Warren Spector, Vice President and Creative Director of Junction Point Studios.

We’re honoured to be able to pay tribute to this classic video game by creating a title that truly takes advantage of the unique capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS, putting the magic of Disney and the historic Castle of Illusion in the palm of your hands.”
