EA and Crytek have announced that the multiplayer beta for upcoming scifi shooter Crysis 3 goes live on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC today.
The beta features 2 maps and 2 game modes from Crysis 3’s multiplayer mode, which pits Nanosuited operatives against one another in a battle to the death. Players will also be able to level up their Nanosuit to level 10 (the multiplayer in the main game will cap at 50), and unlock and customise their abilities to suit their style.
The first of the two modes is Hunter, which plays like a game of Infection in Black Ops 2 or Flood in Halo 4. It arms one team of Hunters with infinite stealth and the iconic bow, and charges them to seek and destroy their opposition, who are cast as crash-landed CELL operatives. When a CELL operative dies, they join the team of Hunters against their former allies. While the Hunters will have stealth on their side, the CELL are equipped with motion trackers and various other tools to help them survive. The second mode is Crash Site, a variant of Halo’s Crazy King or Black Ops 2’s Hardpoint that sees two teams attempting to capture and hold a dynamic location that periodically moves around the game map.
The two arenas included in the beta are Airport and Museum. The former takes place in a derelict airport in New York, where players can use rusted, dilapidated planes as cover as they attempt to traverse a sizeable amount of deadly open ground. The latter is based in a rundown, world famous museum, now flooded and overgrown with wild vegetation.
Individual progress is tracked in the New York Feed, a kind of online leaderboard system that also broadcasts news and information through Crynet. Challenges are also posted here that can be undertaken for XP rewards.

Crysis 3 will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC on February 19 in North America and on February 22 in the UK.
