Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors Amiibo Features Detailed

by on November 5, 2014

Nintendo have revealed that Amiibo will be used to access extra content in Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors.

In Mario Kart 8 scanning an Amiibo on the Gamepad will unlock a Mii Racing Suit, if there is one associated with the Amiibo.

Suits have been announced for Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Captain Falcon, Fox, Samus and Kirby.

Hyrule Warriors’ unlockable content is slightly more substantial. Scan a Link Amiibo on your Gamepad while playing Hyrule Warriors and you’ll unlock an entirely new weapon for Link.

Said weapon is the ‘Spinner’ from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Scanning any other Amiibo into Hyrule Warriors will give you random materials, weapons or rupees. A handy gift, if completely unnecessary. It has not been announced if the Zelda Amiibo will have any special functionality.

Obviously these specific Amiibo are designed for Super Smash Bros for Wii U, and their features have been retro-fitted into Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors, but it’s still a curious situation.

The first wave of amiibo starring characters like Mario, Link and Samus launches on 28th November, with a second wave landing on 19th December.
