Insomniac Games have unveiled their latest project, an underwater metroidvania-style action-adventure title called Song of the Deep.

The studio teased the project a few days back, posting a teaser trailer on their YouTube channel which showed various underwater environments. Insomniac have now revealed it to be Song of the Deep, a game “following a young girl’s quest into the unknown to find her missing father.” A description of the game continues: “Combining discovery, skill, and suspense with an unforgettable narrative, this underwater journey will challenge players to explore, experiment, and skillfully navigate a vast ocean landscape.”

“Throughout development we’ve tried to create moments of awe-inducing wonder,” said Brian Hastings, chief creative officer at Insomniac Games, when revealing the studio’s new title. With Song of the Deep, Insomniac hopes to transport players to a world they’ve never been to, giving them “a sense of amazement and awe,” Hastings said.

The game will be published by GameStop, a U.S. video game retailer. IGN reports that the company will have no creative control over the game, and will only handle the marketing and and promotion. Song of the Deep will see a physical release exclusive to GameStop, as well as a digital release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Song of the Deep has been scheduled for release sometime this summer.
