In case you weren’t aware, Nintendo will be heading to Gamescom in Cologne, Germany this year with some playable Nintendo Switch titles. Subsequently, Nintendo of Europe will be giving a more in-depth look at the gameplay of some already announced titles.

Gameplay videos will be published between 20-22 August showing off the following Switch titles:

  • Luigi’s Mansion 3
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
  • Astral Chain
  • DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition
  • Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
  • The Witcher III: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition

For those of you planning on heading to Gamescom, you’ll be able to play the titles above as well as Pokémon Sword, Pokémon Shield and DAEMON X MACHINA.

Not content with just showing off games Nintendo have invited players from last season’s Smash Ball Team Cup to compete in a one-off Nintendo Live: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – gamescom invitational on 22 August.

The winners of the invitational will then head to Japan to compete in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate World Challenge Cup in Kyoto on the 14 October. As part of a European squad they’ll go up against the qualifying teams from Japan and North America as well as a multi national team of top players in a special gala tournament.

It’s not just for competitors as fans (that’s you!) can nominate players you want to see compete at gamescom. The invitational will be livestreamed on the Nintendo UK YouTube channel on the 22 August.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn’t the only game getting the competitive treatment. Gamescom will also be host to the first country qualifiers in the upcoming season of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate European Team Cup and the Splatoon 2 European Championship. Both qualifiers will be livestreamed, in German, on Friday and Saturday afternoons respectively.
