DuckTales Remastered to Contain Story Beats That Explain Giant Rats

DuckTales-Remastered-to-Contain-Story-Beats-That-Explain-Giant-RatsDuckTales – woohoo! It may come as a shock to some that there are many kids out there that either never grew up playing the NES classic, or watched the cartoon show.

To shed some light on all of this, Capcom producer Ray Jimenez recently spoke with Siliconera about how developer WayForward are adding story beats to the much anticipated DuckTales Remastered. Specifically, the famous Moon stage sees Scrooge McDuck facing off against a giant rat at the end, but in the original version of the game that’s never explained:

“In the NES version, you fight a big rat and it didn’t explain why you’re fighting a rat on the moon. That’s explained in here because there are rats they’re experimenting on and you let them loose and that becomes the rat down there. Also, how does Scrooge McDuck breathes on the moon? We explain that as well.”

I’m sure old school fans could possibly be irked by some of this, including the fact that there’s a tutorial which introduces the player to the cast of DuckTales. But, it must be remembered that the game first came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System nearly 25 years ago. To gain broad appeal, it’s important that some of these things are explained to those that are new to series.

DuckTales Remastered will be released in Summer 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii U
