Last week at Gamescom the ESL hosted the ESL One Counter Strike GO tournament which saw the best CS:GO teams fight it out for a share of the $250,000 prize pool. Ninjas In Pyjamas (NiP) eventually emerged as the winners.

The tournament managed to rake in a peak concurrent viewership of 409,368 across Twitch and the in game client. Almost 3 million unique viewers tuned into the action at some point.

343,638 people were watching the event on Twitch at the same time, making it the most viewed game on twitch at the time and beating the previous CS:GO record by over 150%.

Ulrich Schulze, Managing Director Pro Gaming at ESL had this to say about the success of the event.

“It’s amazing to see the growth of Counter Strike: Global Offensive in the eSports community. Just five months after ESL One Katowice, we see ESL One Cologne 2014 break our previous record by an amazing 161%,”

“We had over ten million sessions and were just shy of three million unique viewers for ESL One Cologne 2014. It’s absolutely amazing to see and we’re all very excited to get back to work and see where we can take Counter-Strike: Global Offensive next.”
