Nintendo Hit The Road For Summer of Gaming Love

by on July 16, 2013

The 3DS has been, for my money, the must-have console of 2013. Some may scoff at such a bold claim, but Nintendo have done a grand job of steadily populating its library with a number of AAA first party titles.

With a bunch of nice looking titles on the horizon, could the Wii U be set to join its handheld little bro as a must-have item in the latter half of the year? Nintendo are certainly hoping so – which is why they have planned a cool Summer tour – a run of events designed to allow families to enjoy some Ninty goodness in an outdoor setting, as well as other sundry activities.

The Wii U Den Tour will give folks the chance to play some New Super Mario Bros U and Nintendo Land in multiplayer, sample the fun Lego City Undercover, and get an idea what the Miiverse has to offer. There is also the promise of trying out “new games coming later this year!”, which is perhaps the most exciting part of the fun for us grizzled Nintendo vets. With a decent spread of locations not just limited to London, there is no excuse not to try and get involved.

The Wii U Den tour will be visiting the following locations this summer:

Sunderland Air Show, Seaburn Park, Sunderland (27-28 July)

Bristol Balloon Fiesta, Ashton Court Estate, Bristol (8-11 August)

Eastbourne Airborne, King Edwards Parade, Eastbourne (15-18 August)

Clacton Air Show, Marine Parade West, Clacton-on-Sea (22–23 August)

The splendidly named “Nintendo 3DS Festival of Fun” gives gamers the opportunity to play a host of 3DS titles such as Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Luigi’s Mansion 2, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and the two LEGO games (Undercover & Legends of Chima). There will also be multiplayer tourneys for Mario Kart 7, a daily Animal Crossing “tips and tricks” clinic, and the opportunity to win “prizes galore”. Of course this will also be a hotspot for picking up StreetPass hits which will help you unlock more crazy hats and puzzle pieces.

Again, there are some good locations on offer – with the Bournemouth dates something I am going to be making an effort to attend personally.

The Nintendo 3DS Festival of Fun will be coming to the following locations this summer:

Sunderland Air Show, Seaburn Park, Sunderland (27-28 July)

Nottingham Riverside Festival, Victoria Embankment, Nottingham (2-4 August)

Eastbourne Airborne, King Edwards Parade, Eastbourne (15-18 August)

Williamson Square (City Centre), William Square, Liverpool (22-25 August)

Bournemouth Air Festival, Bournemouth Sea Front, Bournemouth (29 August – 1 September)
